Couple sex therapy is structured sexual exercises and interactions combined with psychotherapy to promote involvement, intimacy, and openness in a couple’s relationship.
The goal of Couple sex therapy is to help people move past physical and emotional challenges to have a satisfying relationship and pleasurable sex life.
Common concerns that Couples seek support for include worries about having overly high or low levels of desire, difficulties with sexual arousal, disparities in sexual desire between partners, difficulty reaching orgasm, self-judgment or shame around sex and sexual fantasies, reduced sexual pleasure, the presence of pain or discomfort during sex, and the use of pornography or engagement in specific fetishes.
Most of the Therapist are regularly adopting Masters and Johnson’s Sex therapy Model which will have Three stages of Therapies
Stage1; Education and Sex counseling
Stage2; a) Sensate Focus – Non-Genital & Genital
b) Specific sexual dysfunctions
Stage3; a) Assesment of outcome
b) Termination
Couple sex therapy is not mechanical, it is structured sexual exercises and interactions combined with psychotherapy. Every couple has different sexual behavior, attitudes, goals, and also satisfaction, so one model is not suitable for all couples. The method of approach will be tailored accordingly.
Couple sex therapy cannot create love but it can remove roadblocks to the experience and expression of love. The best prognosis in sex therapy exists when there is a real bond of love between the couple.
