
Adolescence is simply a transition stage from childhood to adulthood. It is a stage which all in people go through to become biologically and sexually mature. In girls it may start as early as 9 or 10 years and in boys it begins around 12 hour 13 years adolescence is a time of rapid change in the body emotions and attitudes values intelligent and relationships.
Adolescent changes are triggered by hormones of the pituitary gland and the gonads hormones bring about the development and maintenance of the secondary sex characteristics.
According to their sexuality the adolescent divided into two stages
1. Early adolescence 9 to14 years
2. Late adolescence 15 to 19 years
Early adolescence 9 to14 years;
- This is a period of rapid physical growth for females with development of the primary and secondary sex characteristics along with maturation of reproductive functioning the physical growth of boys begins a couple of years later.
- The gender identity firmly established.
- Both girls and boys develop strong affection for a person.
- Both boys and girls feel hacker and self conscious.
- Girls are anxious about mensuration simple breast size and general appearance.
- Boys are anxious about their height bad pimples wise break penis size and natural emissions.
- Both boys and girls spend lot of time looking in the mirror dressing up and trying to make themselves attractive to the opposite sex.
Parents responsibility; - Open and healthy communication with their children and spending more time to give a confidence.
- Explanation of human anatomy physiology and functions of reproductive organs of both male and female.
- Preparation for the onset of puberty both physically and mentally
- Hygiene of the genitals, pimples, nutrition and exercise should be dealt with.
- Myths and misconceptions should be clarified
Late adolescence 15 to 19 years;
- This is a period of rapid physical growth for boys with development of the primary and secondary sex characteristics along with maturation of reproductive functioning.
- They want to identify with a peer group and period exert a strong influence on each other.
- They are anxious about their educational and occasional goals.
- Sex related behaviour can also take extreme forms, Some individuals may avoid any form of boy-girl relationships, others may conduct in Eve teasing and flirting.
- Sexual urges may result in masturbation, viewing of poronographic materials like magazines, blue films etc.. or visiting commercial sex worker.
- Experimentation is common at this stage peace and courage and sometime force their friends to try out smoking, drinking alcohol, using drugs and having sex.
Parents responsibility;
- Spending more time with their children’s and monitoring of their physical and mental health.
- Build up their self esteem and decision making skills.
- Resisting negative peer pressure.
- Protecting themselves from eve teasing, rape and sexual harassment.
- Building and maintaining healthy and satisfying Boy-Girl relationships.
- Open discussion regarding sexual and reproductive health, safe sex sexual behavior and harmful side of sex.
- Anything and everything adolescence bring up and want to know about should be discussed.
